Each year at our school we undertake professional review against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. We reflect ourself on our competencies to identify how we are performing and areas for improvement. We meet to discuss this with our line manager, who also comments on our performance against each of the standards. That colleague then views some lessons that we teach as well.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
Proficient - Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities.
Highly Accomplished - Plan for professional learning by accessing and critiquing relevant research, engage in high quality targeted opportunities to improve practice and offer quality placements for pre-service teachers where applicable.

6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
Proficient - Contribute to collegial discussions and apply constructive feedback from colleagues to improve professional knowledge and practice.
Highly Accomplished - Initiate and engage in professional discussions with colleagues in a range of forums to evaluate practice directed at improving professional knowledge and practice, and the educational outcomes of students.
As a Learning Support teacher I seek feedback from my more experienced colleague, Sharon Hird, when it comes the the planning of the programs and day to day teaching. By learning from Sharon Hird I have managed to refine my teaching skills when working with small groups. Currently I am teaching Year 7 English and rely on the feedback from experienced teachers to ensure that my programs are comprehensive and meet the curriculum requirements. This year I have liaised with Stuart Harris, Carole Hay and Kerry Martin.
I also engage in discussions at university with colleagues on a range of issues that help me reshape the way I teach in order to improve student outcomes and to increase my knowledge of best practice. I have recently been employed by a university to work as a Pre Service Teacher assessor, this role has help refine my own teaching skills.
6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
Proficient - Undertake professional learning programs designed to address identified student learning needs.
Highly Accomplished - Engage with colleagues to evaluate the effectiveness of teacher professional learning activities to address student learning needs.
Over my teaching career I have taken many courses that are designed to address identified student learning needs. For example when mathematics was deemed an area of weakness the school initiated First Steps Numeracy - this PD was designed to help guide our teaching and programming. As a Learning Support teacher I found that certain skills were missing when teaching the direct reading comprehension program so I went to a MultiLit PD and incorporated the newfound knowledge into my program.
In addition to this I am completing my Masters of Education in Learning Difficulties so that I can be better skilled to address identified student learning needs. Attached are the units that I have studied so far.
